D.T.S.-Decompression Traction System
This Chiropractic Treatment is a multi-session process that decreases pressure inside the disc and promotes self-healing. As the pressure in the discs is decreased, bulging disc material retracts and damaged structures in the spine are healed and rehabilitated.
A Safe and Effective Alternative to Surgery
Decompression Therapy is performed on an intervertebral decompression device.
D.T.S.-Decompression Traction System
  • Research has proven discs may be a primary site of back and leg pain, as well as neck and arm pain
  • The disc is damaged by "compression & flexion" ['squishing'].
  • The disc is avascular (it has no direct blood supply). It gets its nutrients in and waste products out by diffusion [like a sponge]. The healthier the disc the greater its' diffusion
  • Over time loss of strength of the lower abdominal and low back muscles, poor posture, trauma etc. increase the "compression" on the discs, especially of the lower discs [L4/L5] and the mid-neck discs [C5/C6]
  • DTS therapy stretches the spine in a safe, controlled and very specific way to open the disc spaces. This decreases the pressure on the discs and allows an increase of blood flow to help reduce inflammation and heal the area.
  • Research indicates in some cases bulges may be pulled or drawn in by DTS decompression and help relieve pinched nerves.
  • As with all therapy your adherence to the treatment advise and protocols are vital to ensure the best possible outcome. Additionally, though "Decompression" therapy can help many back conditions it is not a 'cure' for everyone. Many times disc damage cannot be fully healed due to the extent of damage or the continuation of irritating activities.
  • Since traction works with the body's natural healing process it does take time to gain full relief. Twelve sessions is the usual minimum number fir disc injuries, especially with leg or arm radiation [if the condition continues to improve a maintenance program maybe beneficial] & don't skip rehab/exercises
  • "Decompression" is a safe and comfortable treatment for most. It rarely causes pain or worsens symptoms [if traction is painful it is simply discontinued]. Occasionally spasms can create post treatment discomfort (ice or electric stimulation will usually relieve it). Decompression is usually not the treatment of choice for acute pain of less than one week, especially if it is difficult to move and bend.

COMPRESSION/DECOMPRESSION and HERNIATION
Over time, compression weakens the annulus, creating tears, inflammation and possible protrusion of the nucleus. The increase of intradiscal pressure sets the stage for annular compromise, allowing extrusion of the nucleus through the tears (herniation) and possible irritation of the nerve roots.

Negative intradiscal pressure created by "decompressive" traction therapy facilitates nutrition and diffusion into the disc improving healing. In some cases actual "retraction" of the protruded material may take place. However, often an improved healing response reducing inflammation is the source of pain relief.

Chiropractic Adjustments

Dr. Pozhitsky utilizes a series of chiropractic adjustments specifically designed to correct the vertebral subluxations in your spine.
A subluxation is when one or more of the bones of your spine (vertebrae) move out of position and create pressure on, or irritate spinal nerves. Spinal nerves are the nerves that come out from between each of the bones in your spine. This pressure or irritation on the nerves then causes those nerves to malfunction and interfere with the signals traveling over those nerves.
The goal of the chiropractic adjustment is to correct the spinal subluxations detected during the examination.

To do that, pressure is applied to the bone and "unlocks" it from its improper position.

Adjustments help return the bones to a more normal position or motion, restoring the body's natural healing.
Chiropractic adjustments can help you:
  • Back/Neck Pain
  • Migraines
  • Sports Injuries
  • Wellness Care
  • Auto Injuries
  • Disc Herniations
  • Sciatica
  • Muscle Pain
  • Work Injuries
  • Personal Injury
  • Arm/Leg Pain
  • Numbness
  • Arthritis Pain
  • Fibromyalgia
How it works:
Your nervous system controls and coordinates all the functions of your body. If you interfere with the signals traveling over nerves, parts of your body will not get the proper nerve messages and will not be able to function at 100% of their innate abilities. In other words, some part of your body will not be working properly.

Dr. Pozhitsky is a specialist in neuromusculoskeletal conditions. He is trained to restore the misaligned vertebrae to their proper position in the spinal column. He does this manually, utilizing the chiropractic procedure known as "spinal adjustment" using his hands in applying corrective pressure to the spine in a specific direction and location. The gentle manual force or thrust helps restore the alignment and mobility of the vertebrae.
What do adjustments feel like? After the adjustment, many patients report a sense of well-being or a feeling of calmness. Others feel improved mobility. Inflammation or muscle spasms may delay these positive effects. DR. Pozhitsky excels at making adjustments comfortable and effective.
Is it safe? YES! Chiropractic adjustments are so safe, even newborns and children receive adjustments to repair the damage caused from the birth process, learning to walk, or other childhood trauma. Each adjustment is tailored to each patient's age, size, and unique spinal problem.
Active Release (ARTS)
Active Release Therapy Active Release Technique (ART) is a soft tissue therapy that focuses on the muscles, tendons, fascia and nerves. When muscle injury occurs, adhesions (also known as scar tissue) form in the muscles as a result of healing. These adhesions make the muscle more pain sensitive, tighter and weaker. This predisposes the patient to repetitive injury. Active Release has the patient perform movements to take the muscle from the shortened to the lengthened position while the provider applies tension to break up adhesions in the muscle. This technique is therefore more aggressive than massage therapy and is used for repetitive strain injuries, muscle adhesions and joint dysfunction.

This technique is most commonly recognized to help athletes improve performance by maximizing muscle function and flexibility and preventing injury, therefore becoming an integral part of an athlete's preparation for their sport. Active release technique can also help with: chronic neck and back pain carpal tunnel shoulder problems tennis elbow headaches thoracic outlet syndrome plantar fasciitis muscle strains nerve entrapments

Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger Points
What is Trigger Point Therapy?
Trigger point therapy is a bodywork technique that involves the applying of pressure to tender muscle tissue in order to relieve pain and dysfunction in other parts of the body. Sometimes massage and trigger point therapy are performed together.

What are Trigger Points?
Trigger points are areas of tenderness in a muscle. There are two basic types of trigger points: active and latent. Active trigger points cause muscular pain and will refer pain and tenderness to another area of the body when pressure is applied. Latent trigger points only exhibit pain when compressed, they do not refer pain to other areas of the body. Latent trigger points are believed to be one of the causes of stiff joints and restricted range of motion of old age.

Chronic Pain What is the Purpose of Trigger Point Therapy?
The purpose of trigger point therapy is to eliminate pain and to re-educate the muscles into pain-free habits. After several treatments, the swelling and stiffness of neuromuscular pain is reduced, range of motion is increased, tension is relieved, and circulation, flexibility and coordination are improved.

Ischemic Compression
Ischemic Compression Ischemic compression is used in trigger point therapy.
What is ischemic compression?
Ischemic compression is sustained digital pressure applied directly on a trigger point (areas of tenderness in a muscle) in order to deactivate it. It can be done with a thumb, finger or a tool.

What is the purpose of ischemic compression?
The purpose of ischemic compression is to deliberately increase the blockage of blood to an area so that, upon release, there will be a resurgence of blood. This washes away waste products, supplies necessary oxygen and helps the affected tissue to heal. .

Ischemic Compression What will ischemic compression help?
Headaches, TMJ syndrome, repetitive stress syndrome, sciatica, whiplash, or any type of chronic muscular pain, where trigger points are involved.

Ultrasound
Ultrasound Device What is Ultrasound?
Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves and it is administered in the region of soft tissue injuries.

How does Ultrasound work?
The sound waves, some moving with a frequency of 1,000,000 waves per second, penetrate into deep into the tissues. The vibrations and heat break down and disperse unhealthy calcium and other hard tissue accumulations.

Chiropractic Ultrasound Therapy Depth of Penetration

Dermosonic©
Dermosonic with Ultrasound
Why is Ultrasound used?
The treatment can be administered directly to the affected area and it penetrates deeply. As the temperature rises, blood flow increases and muscle spasms relax thus speeding up the healing process.

What are the benefits of Ultrasound?
Ultrasound stimulated healing without irritation and enhances the body's natural healing ability. It is effective in treating calcium deposition, speeds metabolism and improves blood flow and reduces nerve root irritation.

Neuromuscular Stimulation
Neuromuscular Stimulator Device What is Neuromuscular Stimulation?
Neuromuscular Stimulation is a special form of electrical current. It is administered at the site of soft tissue injuries, such as muscle injuries, to block pain.

How does Neuromuscular Stimulation work?
Low level electrical current is induced into the tissues to reduce swelling. Neuromuscular Stimulation helps to strengthen muscles and reduces painful symptoms

Neuromuscular Stimulation Why is Neuromuscular Stimulation used?
It is an effective form of pain relief, recommended in cases in which pain is accompanied by swelling and inflammation

What are the benefits of Neuromuscular Stimulation?
Neuromuscular Stimulation reduces the sensation of pain, decreases swelling, promotes muscle tone and helps to speed the healing process.
Counter Strain Technique

Did you know?
Strain CounterStrain, also referred to as Positional Release, is extremely successful in working with pregnant clients suffering sciatica and other common pregnancy discomforts where pressure is not tolerable.
What is the Counter Strain Technique
A technique used to treat somatic dysfunction (impaired or altered function of the musculo-skeletal system).

How does the Counter Strain Technique work?
In this technique, the chiropractor identifies a point of maximum pain, called a tender point. Monitoring the tender point, the chiropractor positions the patient to maximally relieve the discomfort. The chiropractor holds the patient in the maximally relaxed position and then slowly returns the passive patient to a neutral body position. Success of treatment is evaluated by reassessing both the tender point and any accompanying loss of range of motion.

Tender points are foci of hypertonicity resulting from reflexive muscular contracture. The chiropractor breaks the reflex cycle by positioning the patient in such a way that the hypertonic tissue is maximally relaxed. This position eliminates or minimizes stimulation leading to reflex-mediated contraction. Relaxation results in restoration of range of motion and resolution of somatic dysfunction.

General Indications: All cases of pain with acute locking of a joint, as encountered in acute lombosciatalgia, whiplash injuries, torticollis, lumbago, post-traumatic cases, and periarthritis of the shoulder
